How to read a perfume box label: batch code, barcode and size

Perfume packaging carries several identifiers, but they do different jobs. Knowing the difference helps you match the exact product before buying.

Start with the full edition name

Match the brand, fragrance name and edition or flanker name because one extra word can indicate a different product.

Check concentration and size

EDT, EDP and Parfum are commercial concentration labels, while volume is usually shown in milliliters and sometimes fluid ounces. Match both to the product you intend to buy.

A barcode is not a batch code

A barcode identifies a retail product in sales systems, while a batch code generally links to a specific production lot.

A batch code is not final proof of authenticity

A batch code alone cannot prove a product is genuine, so treat it as one clue alongside seller, packaging and receipt.

Compare box and bottle information

Check that edition name, size, concentration and core details are consistent between box and bottle, while allowing for market and batch printing differences.
