Start with realistic expectations
Fragrances are built differently. Some are intentionally airy and close to the skin, while others use heavier materials that remain noticeable for longer. More sprays cannot turn every transparent formula into a powerhouse, so compare performance within the style of the fragrance rather than against one universal standard.
Moisturize before applying fragrance
Dry skin can make a scent seem to fade faster for some people. An unscented moisturizer creates a more consistent surface without competing with the perfume. You do not need a thick layer; the goal is simply to avoid applying fragrance to very dry skin when you want the longest practical wear.
Choose application points carefully
The neck, upper chest and arms are common areas because they move and allow scent to diffuse. There is no need to rub your wrists together after spraying; letting the fragrance dry naturally is simpler. If your skin is sensitive, clothing can be an alternative once you confirm the perfume will not stain the fabric.
Clothing can hold scent longer
Fabric often retains part of a fragrance longer than skin, but dark liquids or oil-rich formulas may leave marks. Test an unseen area first and be cautious with silk or delicate fabrics. Spray from a sensible distance rather than saturating one small spot.
Do not solve every problem by overspraying
Adding many sprays may increase intensity in the first hour more than it increases total wear time. In offices, public transport and other shared spaces, that can quickly become intrusive. Start moderately, observe the fragrance over several wears, then adjust for climate and setting.
Storage is part of performance
Repeated heat and direct sunlight can change how a fragrance smells over time. Keep the bottle in a stable, dry place away from windows and hot surfaces. See our fragrance storage guide for a simple setup.
When should you reapply?
Instead of reapplying automatically after a fixed number of hours, consider the space and the people around you. Your nose can adapt to a scent while others still notice it. When possible, ask someone nearby before adding more fragrance.
